![]() In exchange, it adds an entire second story mode with a female protagonist, which features several new Social Links, new and altered dialog, and several new ending scenes relating to social links that can be accessed on NG+. Of the three versions, Persona 3 Portable arguably has the most obvious differences from the other versions, removing both the fully animated cutscenes and the explorable 3D environments in the city and the school. Persona 3 Portable was released for the PSP and served as a portable version of the game, released after Persona 4 and featuring a number of Quality of Life improvements found in that game. RELATED: New Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden Trailer Gives Story Overviews It also makes some other balance and gameplay adjustments, mainly involving Persona stats, skillsets, and when certain Social Links can be accessed. It also overhauls the Naganaki Shrine, allowing players to use it to alter various properties of Tartarus for their next visit, adds several new fusable Personas, adds an extra scene involving a certain character, and adds new wearable costumes. ![]() ![]() This includes the ability to take Koromaru on walks to gain random items or get a boost to a Social Link, the ability to view secret videos of the protagonist's dorm mates from the control room, the addition of a hard mode, and a number of new quests to complete. It also adds a number of less obvious changes and additional content, which can be found scattered throughout the original game's story. "The Journey" is the name given to the main story of the original game in this version, whilst the playable epilogue dungeon is called "The Answer" and can be accessed from the main menu at any time. This consists of a huge new dungeon called the "Abyss of Time", and clarifies several lingering plot threads from the conclusion of the original game. Potential creepiness aside, Persona 3 Portable is a pretty great port of an admittedly slightly compromised version of the game. P3P's mod scene was fairly extensive for a PSP game, and it's likely this is just the first mod of many. Removing the romance from the game was consistently one of the most popular mods for Persona 3 on PSP, alongside mods that allowed for a wider range of same-sex romances for both protagonists. The scenes with Ken have become a well-known meme over the years, with female protagonist cosplayers even posing being arrested at conventions in reference to the storyline. But for now, this version of the mod is out as a 'simple' placeholder, and can now be downloaded and installed if you prefer. In future, the mod's creator promises a rewritten version of the Ken social link that removes and replaces other related aspects of the social link. ![]() While it was always possible to turn Ken's advances down, this mod ensures that taking up his offer isn't even an option you can select accidentally. That's what this first version of the mod does: it outright removes the dialogue option late on in the S-Link which allows it to become a romance, locking out the romantic version of its final phases, plus some later scenes associated with that path. Added for the handheld release as one of the new female protagonist's exclusive social links, the relationship the female lead can strike up with Ken proved unsettling to many, who noted that the relationship felt like the 17-year-old protagonist of P3P was grooming the 10-year-old Ken.Ĭonsidered most egregious, however, was how the S-Link storyline could culminate in a 'romance' between Ken and the protagonist. The Ken social link was always a hugely controversial element of Persona 3 Portable. It took less than 24 hours from when Persona 3 Portable was first released, but a new PC version of the 'No Ken Romance' mod which was previously available on PSP is already up on modding site GameBanana. ![]()
